Miss Margery Gill, teacher, colleague, and friend to all at John C. Vanderburg ES was born in Madison, Wisconsin on October 30, 1942. Miss Gill received her bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater in 1964, and her Master of Arts degree in education as a reading specialist at Northern Arizona University in 1977. She taught for 44 years, beginning in Greendale, Wisconsin, and Denver, Colorado before finding her home in Nevada. She was a respected and beloved teacher for the Clark County School District for 41 years, teaching at Rowe, Harris, and McDoniel Elementary Schools; lastly, at Vanderburg Elementary School from 1996 to 2008. Miss Gill received many awards and accolades because of her excellence in education, and was named a Distinguished Elementary School Educator in the Clark County School District. She was also listed in Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America, Who’s Who Biographical Record of Child Development Professionals, and Outstanding Leaders in Elementary and Secondary Education. Miss Gill will be remembered by thousands of students, scores of parents, and many colleagues and friends for being a dedicated educator who had a great sense of humor. She loved playing silly pranks, sharing her awesome chocolate chip cookies, and cheering for her Green Bay Packers and University of Wisconsin Beavers. Miss Gill would be pleased to know that her legacy lives on through students who will benefit from a scholarship in her name.

1. She was passionate about teaching. Margery's love of teaching brought her to many... schools over the years. Prior to coming to Henderson , Nevada , she taught in Greendale , Wisconsin and Denver , Colorado . Here is a list of Clark County Schools she worked at: Rowe Elementary (1967-1973), Harris Elementary (1973-1987), McDaniel Elementary (1987-1996) and Vanderburg Elementary (1996-2008). Margery is listed in the"Who's Who of Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America" and the "Who's Who Outstanding Leaders in Elementary and Secondary Education" along with being honored by the Clark County School District as a Distinguished Elementary School Educator.
2. Margery was a Viatorian Associate and she was very active at St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Henderson , Nevada . She was a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister, she attended daily morning mass and Bible Study, she helped with the Religious Education program and she was part of the Environment Committee, Liturgy Committee and the Lifelong Faith Formation Committee. She helped around the office multiple times a week--doing anything you asked her to and always with a bright, cheerful smile on her face!
3. She was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan!
4. Margery made the best cookies...with pecans or no pecans.
We should all desire to live a life of dignity and grace as Margery did. She is someone none of us will ever forget.
