Miss Gill Leaves Us and Moves Forward - 110911

I just found out that Miss Margery Gill, my 2nd grade teacher, and a mentor that shaped my whole life towards kindness, order, appreciation and education died in a random accident yesterday.

November 1974 - Me and Miss Gill on a field trip at Nellis Air Force Base

June 1975 - Miss Gill and I on the last day of 2nd grade.  (Behind her is the compliment board.  If our class got 10 compliments, she would show us a movie on the old reel projector and bring us treats.  Everyone would fight to sit by her desk to watch the movie.  I would move in quick and usually get a spot.  That was the best part.)

She sent lovely, meaningful notes.

Beautiful printing and lots of adjectives.  :)

When I was at BYU, the 1st major I chose was Elementary Education.  I had to write a paper about a mentor in teaching.  I, of course, chose my favorite and most influential teacher, Miss Gill.  I sent her a copy of the paper, Thank You, Miss Gill

On my birthday that year, I received this reply.  It was one of the best presents I ever received.

I had always wanted to write a tribute to Miss Gill in my life history.  I am sad that it has to be under such tragic conditions that I am writing it now.  I am grateful that I had Miss Gill in my life at such an impressionable age.  Everyone should be so lucky.
